Road Chronicles 000325 - ROADRUNNER TAILS

From the Shadow of Mount Chuck

March 25, 2000

Bakersfield was flooded, but Yermo was nice. We didn't stay in Beatty because all they offered us was a dried up grassy lot.
After visiting in Scott's Valley, Bakersfield, Yermo, and Beatty, we are currently residing in Pahrump, Nevada.

A road runner ran past our door this morning and the horses are laying down from the heat.
We clearly see snow capped Mount Charleston from our 'living room.'
We went to the Venetian in Las Vegas a few nights ago.
We will move fairly suddenly if the scalding heat from the Colorado River gets to be too much. I hope we can be here to see the wild flowers in Death Valley before moving on.

Here we have mesquite trees and tall cottonwood trees for some shade. There's an Albertson's Market and Radio Shack in town. It is very rural and everything is paved with gravel. Cowboys are everywhere, although most of them seem to be all hat and no cattle.
